I
Collins Alexander Ogwu, MSc Digital Business student at University of Salford. I am using this opportunity to write about my experience in Digital Business at the University of Salford.
After my graduation in Industrial Mathematics at University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, I served the Federal Government for a compulsory one year and acquired Certificate of National Service. During my service year, I was teaching Junior and Senior Secondary Pupils Mathematics and Computer Science which I gave my best shot and finally got retained at the school. I enjoyed my work until the pandemic came and taught me serious lessons on working remotely from home. Then I made some research and noticed businesses pay well remotely if I have a digital knowledge of it. Logistics was the first business idea that got to my head because everyone was using a courier service to get food or anything ordered online.
MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION
Then I decided to start my own logistics company (SinGLeMillz Global Logistics) for shipping of goods and services from USA 🇺🇸 Canada 🇨🇦 UK 🇬🇧 and China 🇨🇳 to Nigeria 🇳🇬 (Vice Versa). It wasn’t an easy process running the business because I needed publicity and audience, so I had to employ marketers. At some point, I recognized that digital and social media marketing techniques are growing, and that in order to work on international projects, I'll need to learn how to design unique solutions and explore new elements of digital business. So I opted to pursue a Master's degree in Digital Business, and while I considered other institutions, the casual environment and worldwide resources, combined with the University's reputation for academic achievement, made University of Salford an obvious decision. I'm almost done with four modules here, and I'm very glad I made the right decision.
The Royal Technical Institute, Salford, which first opened in 1896 and later became a College of Advanced Technology in 1956, was renamed the University of Salford in 1967. Salford University is ranked 48th in the United Kingdom and in the top 600 universities worldwide. This university also laid the groundwork for well-known figures such as Ben Kingsley, Christofer Eccleston, and Kate Abdo. So, without a doubt, it delivers world-class infrastructure and assists me in developing my digital and social media strategy using international resources.
In Salford, I had the opportunity to learn and engage with people from all over the world, each with their own ethnicity, culture and unique perspectives on social media trends and techniques. As a result, this global degree of involvement aids me in expanding my social media relationships with more diverse and brilliant people. The knowledge I gained from my professors have proven to be useful in consulting, documenting, and interpreting information. Now, I exhibit confidence working cross functionally with great communication, prioritisation, data migration, negotiation and presentation skills.
SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE
Global engagement allows me to expand my social media relationships with more diverse and skilled people, allowing me to keep up with shifting trends and advances in social media. As a result, my university contacts strengthened my social media presence by disclosing my life experiences and perspectives through various posts, which increased my prospective value in the social media sphere.
Search and Social Media Marketing (SSMM) is incredibly relevant in our society today because of its potential to make or break individuals, brands, major tech, and companies, SSMM . I've seen that most big businesses rely on social media marketing to reach out to people and build awareness of their products and services using social media platforms. Students are required to improve their social media profiles and develop websites in my current module, as well as learn about the value of SEO best practises, social media campaigns, and paid media for effective digital marketing. This has been a significant learning experience for me, and the results have been encouraging so far as I continue to grow.
